Chris started working as a cartoonist in high school, designing animated characters for a small company in San Diego, California. He was then accepted as a student at the first Character Animation Program at the California Institute of the Arts. Many of his teachers there were well-known directors and animators for Walt Disney. Chris also studied at New York University in New York City, where he got a degree in film. After Chris finished school, he moved to California and wrote for some television programs. But then an awful thing happenedthe Writer's Guild went on strike. The only work Chris could find was working on comic strips. He started working on the famous "Blondie" comic strip and enjoyed it so much that even after the strike ended, he decided to stay. In 1988, Chris wrote his first book on drawing cartoons for Watson-Guptill Publications. The thrill of seeing his book in bookstores everywhere was too much to resist! So Chris wrote another and another and another. Now you can find Chris's how-to-draw books all over the world! Chris lives in Connecticut with his wife, two daughters, and a Welsh springer spaniel named Rusty. He believes there is a certain magic in cartooning, and hopes you find that magic, too! |
